But hey, as long as you’ve got something fun to do, you should be just fine, and luckily, I’ve got you covered.
I’m that friend in the group who’s always looking for something a little different to do, something fun, spontaneous, and not just another coffee sit (even though, if I had to be honest, I do enjoy that…a lot).
But you know what I mean. Sometimes, you want to break the routine and do something that feels memorable. And one of the reasons why I love Tirana is that there’s always something happening here. Have a look at July’s calendar:

Scams in Albania You Need to Know About (Before It’s Too Late)
As someone who manages a few Facebook groups, I see these posts all the time:
“Do you want to work remotely?”
“Earn money from home…”
It sounds like a dream, but it’s usually a trap targeting students, expats, stay-at-home moms, anyone looking for flexibility.
Another scam I’ve seen recently is a fake Zara promo offering warehouse boxes for just 199 Lekë (~2€). Sounds generous, right? Too generous…
Oh, and then there’s the lost luggage scam. Apparently, selling abandoned suitcases from Tirana Airport. However, the comments were fake… and the Albanian was clearly too robotic to be written by real humans.
So please, be careful, and don’t fall for it. I’ve listed some of the most common scams and how to spot them here:

Extra caution is advised during this period, especially for the vulnerable and those not acclimated to such harsh conditions. The authorities are offering guidance and support to deal with the heat and its associated risks. Progress towards European Union Negotiations at the Western Balkans Summit
At the recent Western Balkans Summit held in Skopje, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama reported advancing progress towards the goal of Albania joining the European Union, a long-standing aspiration for the country. Rama declared that Albania has never been closer to making this aspiration a reality. On the first anniversary of the passing of Ismail Kadare, academics, writers, poets, and politicians gathered to honor the influential Albanian literary figure. Speakers at the commemorative event praised Kadare's contributions to Albanian and world literature. His wife, Elena Kadare, also reflected on his life being intertwined with that of the Albanian people. Kadare, born in Gjirokastra, was regarded as a prominent writer at home and abroad, elevating the prestige of Albanian literature on a global scale. His works, translated into 45 languages, have received international acclaim through numerous awards. The event organized by the Albanian Parliament and the Academy of Sciences highlighted Kadare's enduring legacy in the literary world.

Albanian Scientist Named Among Canada’s Top 5 Researchers
Albanian scientist Kozeta Miliku has been recognized as one of the five most promising scientists in Canada by The Globe and Mail. Miliku's research on foods linked to obesity in children up to age 3 has sparked nationwide discussion in Canada. Originally from Korça, she completed her medical studies in Albania and later received a scholarship from the European Committee in the Netherlands. While she has considered returning to Albania to be closer to loved ones, Miliku acknowledges that Canada has fulfilled her in every aspect, especially as a mother to a three-year-old daughter.

Durrës Prepares for Summer Season, Main Boulevard Closed to Traffic
Authorities in Durrës have decided to designate the "Epidamn" Boulevard as a pedestrian zone every evening throughout July and August to better manage the influx of visitors during the summer. This means that vehicle traffic and parking will be prohibited on the stretch from the Prefecture to the Venetian Tower between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM from July 1 to August 31, 2025. The initiative aims to create a calmer and more accessible environment for pedestrians, enhancing safety and comfort for residents and holidaymakers. The closure of the boulevard is expected to improve the quality of the city's visitor experience and enliven urban life with walking and cultural events.

Tower Euphoria Collapsing in Albania

Pension Agreement with Italy Now In Effect: Details on Who is Eligible and When
The pension deal between Albania and Italy has officially come into force. With the implementation of this resolution, Albanians who have contributed to the Italian pension fund can now benefit reciprocally in Albania. This agreement allows for the unification of contribution periods from both countries, aiding retirees in both nations. Details on eligibility and the schedule for merging contribution periods are expected to be shared in the coming days. This arrangement facilitates and enhances the retirement benefits for those Albanians who have worked in Italy and vice versa, securing a more comfortable retirement phase for them. Expats from Italy living in Albania, or who may consider retiring in Albania, will directly benefit from this bilateral agreement. New Law in North Macedonia to Increase Albanian Representation in Public Administration

Archaeologists Return to Gjirokastra Castle, Evidence from the 4th–6th Centuries Uncovered
After nearly 30 years, archaeologists have returned to the castle of Gjirokastra to uncover evidence from the 4th-6th centuries. The National Institute of Cultural Heritage is conducting excavations near the main entrance of the castle, where they have discovered fragments of a stone tower believed to date back to that time period. The goal is to identify new findings to shed light on the history of this valuable fortress. In addition to the excavation work, the archaeologists are also aiming to enhance the visitor experience at Gjirokastra Castle, adding new features for tourists. The castle is a central venue for cultural events and is the most visited monument in the country.
